About us.

Since our family moved to Glenrinnes more than 25 years ago, our aim has been to develop the estate sensitively and with an eye to quality. Our farmers and gamekeepers all play a key role in managing the land and rearing the animals, and it is their hard work that has enabled our animals to win so many awards.

Organic.

We received our organic accreditation in 2001, at a time when the organic market was much smaller than it is today. It is a more expensive way of farming and offers little premium to us, the producer, when we come to sell it.

However, the decision was based on a simple belief that less chemicals in the food chain can only be a good thing. This is something that we still stand by.

As the Soil Association explains: “almost 300 pesticides can be routinely used in non-organic farming and are often present in non-organic food”. These end up in our food, our waterways and can severely impact local ecology.

We want to produce the best meat possible and we believe that you can taste the difference. Being organic is part of our identity and it is a decision based on health, quality and the environment.

Meat.

Life up in Glenrinnes can be challenging. Winters are long, and hot summer days are not as regular as we would like! Even so, it is a wonderful place to be. It is peaceful and it is beautiful but it is a land better suited to farming livestock than crops, particularly when taking an organic approach.

The glen has been farmed for generations and today we still work with native breeds such as Aberdeen Angus and Shorthorn cattle, and Blackface sheep. Our herds are not large and our farmers take great care in everything that they do.

We know how important it is to be able to choose really high quality produce with great provenance. We know that our meat tastes great and we are proud to be able to elevate our customers’ meals.

Stock.

We operate as a commercial farm and most often sell to others in the supply chain; those businesses who want to supply high quality meat to restaurants and retailers. We are also able to sell whole animals to restaurants or hotels who want to add Glenrinnes Organic Estate meat to their menu.

We know that butchery is a key process in bringing out the very best of a piece of meat and are always happy to chat to great butchers about ways to work together.

Our stock is also available to buy year-round, both via auctions or directly from the farm. Just get in touch if you want to discuss availability or any opportunities for collaboration.
